Help, without the wait

Quick answers to the questions we are asked most. If yours is not here, write to us and a person will reply.

Getting started

Is randomchat.social really free?

Yes. Text chat, video chat, interest matching, skipping, blocking and reporting are free, with no daily limit. Paid plans only add extras such as gender and country filters, photo sharing and a longer chat history.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Open the chat page, press Start and you are given a random name. You only sign in, with Google, if you want to keep that name across devices or buy a paid plan.

How old do I have to be?

At least 18. The service is for adults only, and by starting a chat you confirm that you are one.

Which devices does it work on?

Any phone, tablet or computer with a modern browser. There is nothing to install. Video chat also needs a camera and microphone.

More on this: About us.

Chatting

Why is it taking a while to find someone?

You are matched with people who are looking at the same moment as you, so quiet hours mean a longer wait. If you added interests, the matcher looks for someone who shares one first and then falls back to anyone available. Removing a narrow filter usually speeds things up.

My camera or microphone is not working

Check that your browser has permission to use them for this site: the camera icon in the address bar shows the setting. Close other apps that may be using the camera, then reload the page. If you opened the site from inside another app, open it in your normal browser instead.

My connection dropped. Did I lose the chat?

Not straight away. If your signal comes back within a few seconds you are put back into the same chat. After that the chat ends and the other person can move on.

Can I find someone I talked to earlier?

Only if you added each other as friends during the chat. There is no search, and we keep no record of who talked to whom. Your recent chats are kept as a history in your own browser.

Safety and bans

How do I block or report someone?

Open the menu at the top of the chat and choose Block or Report. Blocking ends the chat and keeps that person away from you for the rest of your session. Reporting does the same and sends the last 30 messages to a moderator. The other person is never told. You can also report a chat just after it has ended.

What happens after I report someone?

A moderator reviews the report with the recent messages from that chat. Addresses reported by several different people can be blocked from the service automatically, and serious or repeated violations lead to longer bans.

I was banned. What now?

Bans expire on their own after a set time. If you think yours was a mistake, email us with the date and time you were blocked and the display name you were using, and a person will look at it. Trying to get around a ban is against the guidelines.

Account and privacy

How do I keep my name on another device?

Use "Save account" in the chat and sign in with Google. We store your display name, interests and any profile photo you uploaded against a scrambled Google ID, not your email, real name or Google picture. Sign in the same way on the other device to get them back.

How do I delete my account or my data?

If you never saved an account or added a friend, there is nothing on our side to delete: close the tab. To delete a saved account, open "Save account" in the chat and choose "Remove my saved account". To delete a conversation with a friend, remove that friend under "People". Your chat history lives in your browser and can be cleared there.

Are my messages saved?

Messages in a random chat pass through our server to be delivered and are not written to disk, unless the chat is reported: then its last 30 messages are kept for a moderator for 30 days. Direct messages between friends are stored for up to 30 days so they can be delivered later.

Plans and payments

What do I get with a paid plan?

Extras on top of free chatting, such as gender and country filters, a place nearer the front of the queue, photo sharing, more interests and a longer chat history. A plan changes what you can do; it does not guarantee that a match will be found or how quickly.

How do I pay?

In cryptocurrency, through NOWPayments. You choose a coin on the checkout page and send the amount it shows from your own wallet. The plan switches on as soon as the blockchain confirms the payment, usually within a few minutes.

How do I cancel?

There is nothing to cancel. Each payment buys a month or a year, and nothing renews by itself. When the time runs out you go back to the free plan; pay again whenever you want more time.

Can I get a refund?

Your first payment is refunded in full if you ask within the money-back window, and payment mistakes are always refunded. Refunds are sent in the coin you paid with, to a wallet address you give us. The refund policy has the full rules and how to ask.
