Safety
You are always one tap from leaving
Talking to strangers is never free of risk. This page says what the service does about it, what it does not do, and how to look after yourself.

The controls in every chat
- Skip. Ends the chat at once and looks for someone new. You owe nobody a reason.
- Block. Ends the chat and stops you from being matched with that person again during your session.
- Report. Does the same as Block, and sends the last 30 messages of the chat to a moderator. You can also report a chat just after it has ended.
Block and Report are in the menu at the top of the chat. The other person is never told that you blocked or reported them.
How reports and bans work
A report holds the reason you chose, any note you added, both display names and the recent messages. A moderator reviews it. Reports are deleted automatically after 30 days.
If an address is reported by several different people in a short time, it can be blocked from the service automatically. Serious or repeated violations lead to longer bans, and trying to get around a ban is itself against the rules. Where the law requires it, we report illegal content to the relevant authorities.
What we do not do
We would rather you know the limits than assume protection that is not there.
- Chats are not watched live. Conversations are not moderated in real time. We act on reports, so reporting is what protects the next person.
- Nobody is verified. We cannot confirm who anyone is, their age or their gender. The 18+ rule is something each visitor agrees to, not something we check.
- Video is not recorded or seen by us. Calls go directly between the two browsers. That keeps them private, and it also means we cannot review what happened on camera. Report it anyway, with a note describing it.
- Photos and clips are not scanned. A photo sent in a chat stays hidden until you tap to see it. If you do not want it, do not open it, and report the chat.
Adults only
randomchat.social is for people aged 18 and over. If someone tells you they are younger, end the chat and report it. Sexual content involving minors is forbidden in every form and, where the law requires it, reported to the relevant authorities.
What is not allowed
Harassment, threats and hate speech; unwanted sexual content; spam, scams and requests for money; sharing or hunting for someone's personal details; and anything illegal. The full list is in the community guidelines.
Tips for staying safe
- Keep your full name, address, workplace, school, phone number and passwords to yourself.
- Be careful with links from strangers, and with invitations to move to another app. Scams usually start by leaving the place where you can report them.
- Never send money, gift cards, codes or intimate images to someone you met here, however good the reason sounds.
- On video, check what is behind you. A letter, a uniform or a window view can say more than you meant to.
- Remember that the other person can screenshot a text chat or record their screen during a call.
- A video call is a direct connection, so each side can learn the other's IP address. Choose text chat if that matters to you.
- Trust the feeling when something seems off. Skip first and think about it afterwards.
Common warning signs
- Someone who wants to move to another app within the first minute.
- A story that ends in a request for money, a gift card or a "verification" code.
- Pressure to turn your camera on, or to send a photo, after you have said no.
- Threats to share something about you unless you pay or comply. Do not pay. Stop replying, report the chat and tell someone you trust.
If you or someone else is in danger
randomchat.social is not an emergency service. If you or someone you are talking to is at immediate risk, contact your local emergency number. If a conversation has left you shaken, a local crisis line or someone you trust is a better next step than another chat.
For anything else, write to [email protected] or see the contact page.
